Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Guilford College used an 11-0 run late in
the second half to come away with a 68-59 win over Washington and
Lee in ODAC women's basketball on Tuesday evening at the Warner
Center.
The Generals (0-2, 0-1) led 55-52 with 6:00 remaining in the
game, but the Quakers (2-2, 1-0) used the 11-0 spurt to assume a
63-55 lead with just 1:46 remaining. Sophomore forward Gabby
Oglesby (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) keyed the run by scoring
eight points and grabbing three rebounds during the decisive
stretch.
Guilford began the game with a 15-4 lead and held that same
11-point advantage (27-16) until the 6:00 mark of the first
half. At that point, the Generals used a 16-3 surge over the
next 4:58 of game action to take their first lead of the game at
32-30 with 1:02 left in the half. Four points from junior
forward Katy Wilson
(Chattanooga, Tenn./ Baylor) and three-pointers by senior guards Allison Sublett (Grand
Rapids, Mich./West Catholic) and Kari Ann Pfannenstein
(Littleton, Colo./Heritage) headlined the run.
After starting the second half deadlocked at 32-32, senior
forward Becca Bolton
(Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) gave W&L a six-point lead
(45-39) with 14:33 remaining by scoring 11 of the Generals' first
13 points of the second half. W&L could stretch its
advantage to no more than six points and the Quakers kept things
close until an Oglesby jumper gave Guilford the lead for good at
57-55 with 4:19 left in the contest. Six free throws in eight
chances in the final 1:46 kept the Generals at bay as the Quakers
claimed their first win over W&L in the last five tries.
Washington and Lee, which shot just 33.9 percent (19-56) from
the floor, was paced by Bolton and Wilson, who both scored 15
points. Wilson added nine rebounds and Bolton claimed eight
boards. Sublett scored a career-high eight points on 2-of-3
shooting from distance, while junior forward Rachel Warrick (Herndon,
Va./Langley) also notched eight markers in the contest.
Oglesby and senior guard Jazlyn Gibbs (Greensboro,
N.C./Southeast Guilford) each scored 14 points, while first-year
guard Brittany Drew (Greensboro, N.C./Page) chipped in 12 points
for Guilford. Gibbs also grabbed eight rebounds.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday as it takes on
FDU-Florham in the Colorado College Thanksgiving Tournament.
Tip-off is slated for 1:00 pm Mountain Time.
