LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team was in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting the W&L Fall Classic. The Generals went 0-2 on the day, falling to East Tennessee State, 29-27, and dropping a 34-10 decision to Liberty.
Against East Tennessee State, the Generals won three of the four contested matches, but could not overcome forfeits in four weight classes. W&L also dropped four matches by forfeit to the Flames and won three of the six contested matches.
First-years Conor Duffey (Boxford, Mass./Brooks School) and Zan Reed (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), and junior Brian Ross (Brick, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) all went 2-0 on the day to lead the Generals.
At 141 pounds, Duffey opened his day with a pin of ETSU's Robert Simpson in 1:16 and finished with a 9-4 decision over Liberty's Andrew Goolsby. Reed pinned Christopher Miller of ETSU in 1:39 before posting an 8-6 win over Liberty's Bobby Lefew. Ross won his opener at 149 pounds by forfeit, then posted a 9-1 win over Aaron Beverly of Liberty.
Washington and Lee returns to action on December 3 when it takes part in the Ohio Northern Invitational beginning at 9:00 am.
