Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee scored 55 seconds into
the game and cruised to a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry in
ODAC men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (8-4-4, 5-2-3) got all the scoring they would need
in the first minute when sophomore midfielder Parker Wolfinger (Greer,
S.C./Riverside) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Justin TenBrook
(Millville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) following a scrum in the
box.
W&L upped its advantage to 2-0 in the 33rd minute when
TenBrook scored on a header following a cross by first-year
defender Al Organ
(St. Paul, Minn./DeLaSalle).
Senior goalkeeper Ben Petitto (Gainesville,
Fla./St. Francis) played the duration in goal, registering three
saves to make the shutout stand up.
Emory & Henry (4-13, 1-9) was outshot 18-5 in the contest
and the Generals held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Junior
Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C./Mars Hill) played the opening 45
minutes for the Wasps, recording one save with two goals allowed to
suffer the loss in goal. First-year Micah Varner (Charlotte,
N.C./Providence Day) played the second half and posted two
stops.
With the win, W&L earned the third seed for the ODAC
Tournament and will play host to sixth-seeded Lynchburg College on
Saturday at Watt Field. A game time is to be determined.
