Leary Earns 35 Career SO as Women's Soccer Tops Denison, 2-0

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee women's soccer senior keeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) recorded her 35th career shutout, becoming the program's all-time shutouts leader, as the Generals defeated Denison, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field.

The shutout was Leary's 13th of the season and 35th of her career, passing Kiki Moreo '08 for the all-time program lead. She has started every match for W&L this season, posting an 11-2-2 record.

The opening minutes of the contest saw both teams battle in the midfield, but the Generals (11-2-2) gained momentum in the 20th minute as they applied pressure to the Denison defense.

W&L capitalized in the 30th minute, as first-year midfielder Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) used her body to deflect a cross from classmate Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day) giving the Generals a 1-0 lead.

The score remained at 1-0 going into the break, and junior midfielder Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) added the final goal of the contest in the 70th minute when she sent a free kick from just outside the Denison (5-7-2) box to the top left corner of the net for the final 2-0 margin. The win over DU was the first in program history for W&L after four previous meetings.

Leary played all 90:00 for W&L, recording three saves. Denison sophomore keeper Andrea Karl (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) also played the entire match, stopping two shots.

For the contest, W&L led Denison in both shots (11-5) and corner kicks (4-2).
