WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Centennial Conference with losses to Stevens (49-3), 14th-ranked Merchant Marines (51-0) and host McDaniel (39-9) on Saturday afternoon.
In the loss to Stevens (8-7-1, 1-0), the Generals forfeited the first two weight classes and fell behind 25-0 before junior David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) got W&L on the board with a 5-0 decision over William Sharkey at 165 pounds. The Generals then forfeited three of the final four weight classes to close things out.
In the loss to USMMA (8-2, 2-0), four forfeits limited the Generals, whose closest individual match was a 10-8 loss by first-year Eric Fessel (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) to James Beshada at 141 pounds.
In the finale against the Green Terror (4-8, 2-4), the Generals forfeited the first two weight classes and fell behind 15-0 before first-year H.T. Kotchinian (Lowell, Mass./Belmont Hill) recorded a 14-8 decision over Tim Hall at 149 pounds. Senior Keith Jaworski (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) followed with a 6-3 win over Torin Lehmann at 157 pounds and first-year Daniel Igel (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles School) notched an 11-5 decision over Matt Peters at 165 pounds to pull within 15-9. However, W&L forfeited in the final four weight classes to drop its sixth-straight dual match.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Johns Hopkins for a 1:00 pm dual match with the Blue Jays.
