Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee senior forward James Pymm (Smithtown,
N.Y./St. Anthony's) recorded a penalty kick goal in the
53rd minute as the Washington and Lee men's soccer team
held on for a 1-0 victory over Randolph College on Wednesday
afternoon at Watt Field.
Neither team was able to find the net in the first half, with
the Generals (1-1-1) holding a 4-1 advantage in shots and 1-0 edge
in corner kicks.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half senior midfielder Ben Belair (McLean, Va./Langley)was fouled in the box, leading to the
penalty kick. Pymm took the penalty kick, and edged the shot past
Randolph (2-5-0) goalkeeper senior Aaron Humphreys (Powhatan,
Va./Powhatan) to secure the 1-0 lead and eventual victory for
W&L.
The WildCats had several opportunities in the remaining minutes
of the second half but were not able to take advantage, despite
leading the Generals in shots, 10-7, and corner kicks, 3-1 for the
contest.
Junior keeper Alex
Lambert (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Charminade) played all 90:00 for
the Generals, recording six saves en route to the shutout.
Humphreys also played the duration for Randolph, stopping three
shots.
W&L returns to action on Saturday as they host Shenandoah
for a 3:30 pm contest at Watt Field.
