Box Score SALEM, Va. – Sophomore forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro,
N.C./Chatham Central) and junior center Felice Herman (Fairfield,
Pa./Delone Catholic) both recorded double-doubles to lead the
third-seeded Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a
72-66 victory over sixth-seeded Guilford in the quarterfinals of
the ODAC Tournament on Thursday evening at the Salem Civic
Center.
The win upped the Generals' record to 16-9 overall, tying
the program record for victories in a season. It also marked just
the third time that W&L has emerged with a win in the
conference tournament (1999 & 2007).
Bolton notched 13 points in the first half, including a perfect
8-for-8 from the foul line, as the Generals pushed out to a 39-33
lead at the break. W&L never trailed in the second half and
surged out to an 11-point lead (55-44) with 9:19 left in the game
following a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Meg Ingram
(Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale).
The Quakers (14-12) chipped away at the W&L advantage,
eventually cutting it to a three-point game (63-60) with 2:08
remaining. However, the Generals hit 9-of-12 free throws in the
final 1:15 to secure the victory.
For the game, W&L nailed 24-of-32 (.750) free throws led by
Ingram, who tallied a team-best 19 points on 9-for-10 shooting from
the foul line. Bolton recorded 17 points on 10-of-12 shooting from
the line and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, while Herman posted
13 points and 10 boards.
Sophomore guard Jazlyn Gibbs led the Quakers with a game-high 26
points and senior forward Alexa Williams registered 15 points and
11 rebounds.
Washington and Lee will now take on seventh-seeded Eastern
Mennonite in the semifinals on Saturday at 3:00 pm at the Salem
Civic Center.
