Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's
basketball team recorded its program-record 14th Old Dominion
Athletic Conference victory en route to claiming the number three
seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament as it defeated Bridgewater,
67-53, on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
With the game tied, 6-6, at the 15:11 mark in the first half, the
Generals (15-9, 14-6) went on a 10-0 run over the next 1:49, fueled
by two three-pointers from sophomore forward Kari Ann Pfannenstein
(Littleton, Colo./Heritage), to assume a 16-6 lead.
The Eagles (17-8, 13-7) would follow with a run of their own,
outscoring W&L 18-4 over the next 9:24 and claimed their
largest lead of the contest, 24-20, with 3:58 remaining in the
half. However, W&L would respond with an 11-6 run over the
closing minutes to assume a one point lead (31-30) at the half.
Both teams would trade baskets to open the second stanza, tying the
game at 35-35 at the 18:29 mark. The Generals would slowly pull
away, taking the lead for good (37-35) after a layup from junior
center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) with 18:11
remaining. It remained a two-point game (48-46) with 11:47
remaining before W&L went on a 19-7 run to close out the game
and claim the 14-point victory.
The Generals shot 41.9 percent (26-62) from the field for the game,
while limiting BC to jut 32.8 percent shooting (20-61) from the
field, including 15.4 percent (2-13) from behind the arc.
W&L was paced by sophomore forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro,
N.C./Chatham Central), who recorded game-highs of 18 points and 14
rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. Sophomore guard
Meg Ingram chipped in 14 points, while tying a career-high with
eight assists. Pfannenstein notched 14 points and tied a
career-high with three blocks.
Bridgewater was led by junior guard Jordan Burkholder (Bridgewater,
Va./Turner Ashby), who had 11 points. Junior guard Emileigh Lambert
(Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle) and first-year guard Molly Look
(Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) each contributed nine points, while
first-year forward Jackie Buckley (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
The Generals will return to action on Thursday in the first round
of the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Salem Civic
Center in Salem, Va. The third-seeded Generals will face
sixth-seeded Guilford College at 8:00 pm.
