Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite used a 21-7 run in
the first half to pull away for an 83-62 win over Washington and
Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday evening at
Yoder Arena.
The Generals (16-9, 8-8) trailed just 14-11 with 10:27 left in
the first half following a dunk by first-year forward J.D. Ey
(Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park). However, the Royals used their
decisive run to produce a 35-18 lead with 3:45 left in the first
half en route to carrying a 42-28 lead into the halftime break.
W&L scored the first two baskets of the second half to pull
within 10 points (42-32) with 18:35 left in the contest, but the
Royals (21-3, 14-2) pushed back out to a 15-point lead (47-32)
following a three-pointer by junior guard D.J. Hinson at the 17:48
mark. EMU carried a double-digit lead throughout the second half in
posting the 21-point victory.
Eastern Mennonite shot 50.0 percent (32-64) from the floor and
hit 10 three-pointers (10-28) in the contest. W&L shot just
31.8 percent (21-66) from the field and was successful on just
1-of-11 (.091) attempts from beyond the arc.
The Generals were led by senior forward Ben Goetsch (Timonium,
Md./Gilman), who totaled a game-high 21 points and six rebounds.
First-year guard Jeremy Adkins (Huntington, W.Va./Spring Valley)
posted 12 points and nine boards, while senior forward Andrew Payne
(Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) chipped in 12 points and four
boards.
The Royals were paced by junior forward Orie Pancione's 19
points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. Junior guard George
Johnson notched 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while
Hinson logged 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior
guard Todd Phillips added 11 points, seven assists and five
rebounds.
Washington and Lee will be the No. 6 seed for the ODAC
Tournament and will host 11th-seeded Emory & Henry for a first
round game on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Warner Center.
