Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Roanoke College held the Washington and
Lee women's basketball team to just 19 points in the second
half as it went on to defeat the Generals, 64-51, on Friday evening
at the Warner Center.
With the game tied, 32-32, at the half, the Maroons (21-2, 19-1
ODAC) opened the second period with a 12-2 run over a span of 4:26
to take a 10 point lead (44-34) at the 15:34 mark. W&L (14-9,
13-6 ODAC) would pull to within five points (51-46) with 5:59
remaining, but could pull no closer.
The Generals shot 46.2 percent (12-26) in the first half, but
cooled to just 27.6 percent (8-29) in the second stanza, and shot
36.4 percent (20-55) for the game. Roanoke shot only 33.9 percent
(21-62) for the game, but caused 16 W&L turnovers, recording 12
points off the miscues.
W&L was led by sophomore guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro,
N.C./Ragsdale), who recorded a game-high 17 points and five
assists. Sophomore forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham
Central) notched 12 points and eight boards, while first-year guard
Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) contributed a game-high
nine rebounds.
Roanoke was paced by sophomore center Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge,
Va./Lord Botetourt), who recorded all 14 of her points in the first
half. She also added nine rebounds and three assists. Senior guard
Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) tallied 13 points and eight
rebounds on the night.
The Generals return to action tomorrow as they host Bridgewater
College at 4:00 pm.
