Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee field hockey
dropped an 8-0 decision to the 12th-ranked Hornets of
Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets improved to 9-2 on the season and 4-0 in the ODAC,
while the Generals slipped to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the
conference.
LC tallied seven first-half goals on 30 shots and 18 penalty
corners in taking a commanding lead. Lindsay Leonard put the
Hornets up 1-0 just 1:47 into the contest off a feed from Amanda
Wain. Leonard added an unassisted goal at the 7:21 mark for a
2-0 lead before the Hornets tallied three goals over a span of 1:21
to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Jenny Weir tallied the first two of the aforementioned quick-strike
goals, and Deanna Smith capped the barrage with an unassisted goal
at the 13:19 mark to give LC the 5-0 lead.
The Hornets tallied two more goals in the first half and Leonard
scored once in the second half to complete the scoring.
Weir finished with three goals and two assists while Leonard had
three goals.
Sophomore
Caroline Sutherland (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor) played
all 70:00 in the cage for the Generals and tallied 12 saves.
Tiffany Faye started in goal for Lynchburg and played 39:29,
recording one save. Jordan Seeley played 7:00 and Hannah Myers
logged 23:31 in goal for the Hornets, with neither having to make a
save.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern
Mennonite at 7:00 pm at the W&L Turf Field.
