Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Taylor Garrett (Birmingham,
Ala./Mountain Brook) recorded two goals in the first half as the
Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated Hollins, 4-0, on
Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
After Hollins (4-7, 1-5 ODAC) recorded an own goal to put
W&L (6-3, 4-1 ODAC) up 1-0 in the 32nd minute,
Garrett tallied her first goal off an assist from sophomore
midfielder Katie
Howard (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) in the 41st
minute to give W&L a 2-0 advantage. She notched her second goal
just one minute later when she received a through ball from junior
forward Kat Barnes
(Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), giving W&L a 3-0 advantage at the
half.
Sophomore midfielder Hannah Sackfield
(Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) added the Generals' final goal of
the contest off an assist from junior forward Anne Masich (Raleigh,
N.C./Needham B. Broughton) in the 55th minute to secure
the 4-0 victory.
In net, junior Emily
Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) and senior Taylor Joosten (Chicago,
Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) split time, with neither facing a
shot. Hollins junior netminder Kristen Norkus (Gainesville,
Va./Battlefield) played all 90:00, stopping eight shots.
W&L returns to action on Friday as it travels to Lynchburg
for a 7:00 pm contest.
