Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – Washington and Lee first-year Colin
Hagenbarth recorded his first collegiate goal in the
87th minute as the No. 6 seed Generals upended No. 3
seed Virginia Wesleyan in quarterfinal action of the ODAC men's
soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field.
Virginia Wesleyan (10-5-4) came out strong in the first half,
outshooting W&L (8-6-2) 11-2, but the Marlins were not able to
capitalize, as the contest went into the half knotted at 0-0.
The two squads continued to play a close match in the second
half, until Hagenbarth netted his game-winner in the
87th minute off an assist from fellow first-year Zach Clarke (Beaumont,
Texas/Monsignor Kelly Catholic), advancing W&L to the
semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since
the 2007 season.
Senior keeper Will
Dorrance (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) played all 90:00 for the
Generals, stopping seven shots. VWC Alan Hinton also played the
duration, recording three saves.
W&L will advance to face either Hampden-Sydney or Roanoke in
semifinal action on Wednesday.
