Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore forward Bess Ruff (Tupelo,
Miss./Tupelo) tallied two goals in the second half as the
Washington and Lee women's soccer team concluded
regular-season play with a 4-0 victory over Randolph College on
Tuesday evening at WildCat Stadium.
Junior forward Anne Masich (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) recorded
the Generals' (9-5-2, 7-3-1 ODAC) first goal of the contest
with an unassisted marker in the 22nd minute when she
picked up a rebound from a shot by sophomore midfielder Hannah
Sackfield (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) that hit the crossbar to
give the Generals a 1-0 lead, which they would take into the
half.
Junior forward Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Good Counsel)
tallied her second goal of the season in the 64th minute
off a cross from senior midfielder Laura Yungmeyer (Kingsport,
Tenn./Dobyns Bennett) to give the Generals a 2-0 advantage.
Ruff then recorded both of her goals just five minutes apart in
the final minutes of the contest. Her first goal came
77th minute with a helper from junior forward Kat Barnes
(Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), while the second tally was a header
off a cross from junior defender Kat Lawson (White Post, Va./Clarke
County), which secured the 4-0 victory for W&L.
Senior keeper Taylor Joosten (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius College
Prep) played all 90:00 for W&L, and did not face a shot.
Randolph keeper Victoria Johnson also played the duration,
recording 12 saves.
W&L will return to action on Saturday as the No. 5 seed in
the ODAC women's soccer tournament. They will travel to face
No. 4 seed Bridgewater at noon.
