Box Score ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team allowed
a late game-tying goal and ultimately fell, 2-1, in overtime at
Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (7-7, 5-2 ODAC), broke a scoreless halftime tie
in the 40th minute, when senior forward
Kelly Tran (Simsbury,
Conn./Ethel Walker) tallied her 12th goal of the season after being
awarded a penalty stroke.
The score remained tied until the 65th minute when RMC's (12-5,
6-1 ODAC) Mary McCarthy took a pass from Monica Jenkins and beat
W&L sophomore
Caroline Sutherland
(Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor) to knot the score at 1-1.
Lauren Seal scored the game-winner for the Yellow Jackets just
2:21 into the extra frame to give RMC sole possession of second
place in the ODAC.
Sutherland played the entire match in the cage for W&L and
came up with 10 saves and junior defender
Lizz Dye (Houston,
Texas/Episcopal) added a defensive save. Nicole Woodworth played
the duration for RMC and also made 10 stops.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they travel to
Bridgewater for a 4:00 pm contest.
