Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Washington and Lee field hockey team
fell, 4-1, to Rhodes on Friday afternoon in a game played on a
neutral field at Sewanee.
Rhodes (12-1) blew open a scoreless game with four second-half
goals and limited the Generals (7-5) to just eight shots in the
second period in posting the win.
The Lynx Lindsey Gurkovich opened the scoring with an unassisted
goal in the 40th minute to give Rhodes a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes
later, she tallied her second goal of the match to give Rhodes a
2-0 lead at the 47:52 mark.
W&L cut into the lead when sophomore Chelsea Stevenson
(Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) recorded an unassisted goal in the
61st minute to put the score at 2-1 in favor of the Lynx.
Libby Jones and Katie Fulcher each tallied markers for the Lynx
in the game's final two minutes to account for the final
margin.
Sophomore Caroline Sutherland (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor)
played all 70:00 in goal for W&L and made 15 saves.
Jordan Robinson and Sarah Dockery each played 35 minutes in goal
for Rhodes. Robinson played the first half and came up with two
saves, while Dockery played the final 35:00, coming up with six
saves.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they take on
Sewanee at 12:00 pm.
