Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee Field hockey team
received goals from five different players as the Generals cruised
to a 6-0 victory over Sweet Briar on Friday evening at the W&L
Turf Field.
W&L (4-3, 2-0 ODAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:21
into the contest when sophomore midfielder
Chelsea Stevenson
(Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) bet SBC (2-8, 0-3) junior
goalkeeper Emma Rakosky (Ellicott City, Md./Maryvale Prep)
following a pass from junior midfielder
Annie Stevenson
(Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day).
Senior forward Kelly
Tran (Simsbury, Conn./Ethel Walker) made it 2-0 in favor of the
Generals just seven minutes later when she tallied her fifth goal
of the season off a feed from senior defender
Jennie Norcini (Wayne,
Pa./Episcopal).
W&L then tallied a pair of goals just two minutes apart when
Chelsea Stevenson tallied an unassisted marker at the 20:48 marker
and first-year midfielder
Iziar Moure (Mar del Plata,
Argentina/Holy Trinity) made it 4-0 on a pass from
Annie Stevenson
at the 22:53 mark.
In the second half, W&L struck quickly once again. The
Generals increased their lead to 5-0 on an unassisted tally from
senior defender Kate
Donnelly (Houston, Texas/St. John's) just 2:30 into the second
period.
The score remained 5-0 until late in the second half when Norcini
capped the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner at the 65:17
mark. Junior forward Emily
Kunkel (North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy) and first-year
forward
Lauren Boone (Lousiville, Ky./Collegiate) were credited
with assists.
The Generals outshot SBC 30-0 and held an 18-0 advantage in
penalty corners. Rakosky played all 70:00 in goal for the Vixens
and made nine saves while sophomore
Caroline Sutherland
(Huntington, N.Y./Cold Harbor) played all 70:00 in the cage for
W&L and did not face a shot in picking up her first collegiate
shutout.
W&L returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Mary Washington at
2:00 pm at the W&L Turf Field.
