SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore
forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) recorded her
fifth double-double of the season, but the Generals were held
scoreless for a five minute stretch in the second half as Roanoke
edged W&L, 57-54, in women's basketball action on Friday
evening at the C. Homer Bast Center.
The Generals (5-7, 4-4 ODAC) found themselves
down 11 points in the first half (27-16), but used a 12-3 run to
make it a two-point game (30-28) with 53 seconds left in the first
half and ultimately trailed 33-28 at the break following a
three-pointer by Roanoke sophomore guard Kendra Porter.
W&L's scoring run continued in the
second half as the Generals took their only lead of the game
(34-33) with 17:13 to play on a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Kari Pfannenstain (Littleton, Colo./Heritage). However, the Maroons
(10-2, 7-1) held W&L scoreless over the next 4:43, outscoring
the Generals 10-0, to take a 43-34 lead with 12:30 to play. RC
stretched its lead to as many as 11 points on two occasions, but
W&L used an 8-3 run late in the second half to pull within
three points (57-54) with 1:28 to play, but could pull no closer as
Roanoke held on for the win.
Bolton tallied 15 points on 6-12 shooting and
added 15 rebounds. Pfannenstein recorded 16 points on 6-11
shooting, including 4-6 from beyond the three-point line. Sophomore
guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) added seven points and
six boards.
The Maroons were led by junior center Jordan
Gholson, who tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Caitlyn Long added 12 points and junior guard Rebecca Bays chipped
in four points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when
they travel to Bridgewater for a 3:00 pm contest.
