LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer
team played their third consecutive double-overtime game, but fell
to Lynchburg, 3-2, at Shellenberger Field on Saturday night.
The Generals (2-2-2, 0-1-1 ODAC) went on the board first when
junior midfielder James Pymm (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's)
recorded a goal in the eighth minute of the match. Lynchburg
(7-1-1, 3-0-1 ODAC) would respond with a goal of its own just two
minutes later, and both teams went into the half 1-1.
Lynchburg found the net first in the second half, recording a goal
in the 58th minute, but Pymm would record his second goal of the
match in the 75th minute off a helper from first-year John
Stallé (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) to send the game into
extra minutes.
Both teams would not record a goal in the first overtime, but
Lynchburg's Stephen Legg found the net in the 103rd minute to
secure the win for the Hornets.
Junior goalie Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) played 102:33
minutes in net, allowing three goals while recording five saves.
Lynchburg goalie Matt Sturdivant also played 102:33, allowing two
goals and recording one save.
The Generals return to action Tuesday as they host Guilford at Watt
Field. Game is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
