SEWANEE, Tenn – Senior midfielder Drew
Crowley (Weston, Mass./Weston) scored the game's lone goal as
the Washington and Lee men's soccer team edged out a 1-0
victory over Sewanee at the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational on Sunday
afternoon.
The game remained scoreless through the first half and most of the
second until Crowley netted a goal in the 77th minute off an assist
from sophomore midfielder James Paldino (Kensington,
Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) to secure the win for the Generals
(1-1).
W&L junior goalkeeper Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonough)
played all 90 minutes in net and recorded seven saves en route to
the shutout. Sewanee (2-2) first-year netminder Chris Grover also
played the duration, allowing one goal and recording four
saves.
Three Generals were also named to the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore defender Connor Pierce (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park),
first-year defender Conor Starr (Summit, N.J./The Pingry School)
and junior forward James Pymm (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's)
all received recognition.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they travel to
Southern Virginia University for a 4:00 pm contest.
