FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum Panthers rallied with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth inning en route to defeating the Washington and Lee baseball team, 4-3, in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon.

After falling behind 1-0 in the third inning, the Generals tallied single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to assume a 3-1 lead entering the ninth inning, before Ferrum rallied for the win in the extra frame.

First-year outfielder C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) started the Generals' (8-4) scoring when he drove in senior first baseman Andrew Henderson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) with a double in the fifth inning. Junior third baseman Jim Plantholt (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) added an RBI single in the sixth inning and junior shortstop John Ditore (Seattle, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) drove in Thompson with a double in the seventh inning to put W&L up 3-1.

Sophomore righthander Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) was in line for the win after pitching three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Ferrum (8-5) scored a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth on consecutive doubles by Justin Franklin and Gabe Moncada, followed by a single from Travis Crump that knotted the score at 3-3. The Panthers scored the winning run in the tenth when Moncado hit a bases-loaded single off of first-year righthander Alston James (Columbia, S.C./Hammond).

Senior second baseman Byron Peyster (Washington, D.C./Maret) led the Generals with three hits in four at-bats, including a double. Thompson also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Generals return to action on Thursday when they host Penn State-Harrisburg at Cap'n Dick Smith Field. The game is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
