GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford College closed the game on a 17-2 run to take a 75-61 decision over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Ragan-Brown Field House.
The Generals (12-8, 5-6) led by as many as 11 points (35-24) in the opening half and held the lead for the first 8:07 of the second stanza. The Quakers (17-4, 10-2) pushed out to a 50-45 lead at the 11:04 mark, but W&L regained the advantage at 59-58 with 5:39 remaining. However, Guilford then began its game-closing run to saddle the Generals with their fourth-straight loss.
Guilford shot 60.9 percent (14-23) from the floor in the second half and drilled all 17 of its free throws in the final 20 minutes en route to its fourth-consecutive win.
Senior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior forward Ben Goetsch (Timonium, Md./Gilman) paced the Generals with 10 points each. Senior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) tallied eight points, while first-year guard Kyle Bond (Boxborough, Mass./Brimmer and May) chipped in five points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Clay Henson led Guilford with 20 points, while Rhett Bonner totaled 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the foul line. Tyler Sanborn posted 13 points and eight boards and George Neville added 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday as it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 pm contest.
