EMORY, Va. - Emory & Henry knocked down 7-of-8 free throws in the final 39 seconds to pull out a 73-68 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the King Center.
The Generals (12-7, 5-5) trailed by as many as nine points (62-53) with 3:13 to play and were down 63-55 with 2:10 remaining. However, W&L went on an 11-3 run capped by a pair of free throws from junior forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./Park School) to tie the game at 66-66 with 39 seconds left.
Emory & Henry's J.D. Dyson was fouled the next time down the floor, making one of two free throws and the Wasps went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe the rest of the way to earn the victory and give the Generals their third-straight loss.
Washington and Lee shot 55.0 percent (22-40) from the floor and 15-of-17 (.880) from the free throw line, but could not overcome 3-of-18 (.170) shooting from beyond the arc and 20 turnovers.
Senior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) led the Generals with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, while junior forward Ben Goetsch (Timonium, Md./Gilman) notched 12 points and six boards. White chipped in 11 points and six rebounds as well.
The Wasps (10-11, 4-8) were paced by Robert Hudson's 18 points and Kyle Huckins' 15 points. Terrance Grigg added 10 markers in the winning effort.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Guilford for a 3:00 pm contest.
