W&L Wrestling Drops a Trio of Matches at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team wrapped up its regular season with a 4-9 overall record and a 1-6 Centennial Conference mark following a trio of dual match losses at McDaniel on Saturday afternoon. The Generals fell to Muhlenberg, 26-13, dropped a 34-6 decision to Ursinus, then were knocked off, 25-12, by McDaniel.

The Generals were paced by four wrestlers who notched 2-1 individual records for the day. At 165 pounds, senior Rob Terrin (Baltimore, Md./Friends) posted a 20-5 technical fall victory over Muhlenberg's Ken Ludwig and also notched a 5-3 win over John Whitman of Ursinus. He was then defeated by Zach Hentrick of McDaniel, 9-5.

First-year Ben Ersing (Beverly, Mass./St. John's Prep) also went 2-1 at 125 pounds, beginning his day with a 10-5 win over Muhlenberg's Ryan Hoffman, before being pinned by Ursinus' Ben Garelick in 3:46. Ersing recovered to finish his afternoon with a 10-4 win over Sean Ensign of McDaniel.

First-year Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) also went 2-1 at 133 pounds. He defeated Muhlenberg's William Hall by a 5-1 count, fell to Ursinus' Stephen Kingsland, 5-2, and defeated Peter Caruso of McDaniel, 2-0, when he notched a takedown just before the end of the sudden victory session.

Also sporting a 2-1 record on the day was first-year 157-pounder David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood). Dennis defeated Keith Swanson of Muhlenberg, 7-1, before falling to Christopher Springer of Ursinus, 7-3. He then finished with a 7-3 decision over Matt Peters of McDaniel.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it competes in the Centennial Conference Championships beginning at 11:00 am.
