GRANTHAM, Pa. – The W&L wrestling team was in action
over the weekend at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Mesiah
College on Friday and Saturday. The Generals finished the
tournament in 13th place out of 13 teams.
Leading the way for W&L was sophomore Sam Campbell (Winnetka,
Ill./New Trier), who finished 2-2 for the tournament in the
141-pound bracket. Campbell fell to third-seeded Alex DeHart
of Messiah, 6-0, in the first round, but bounced back to defeat
Kyle Huber of Wilkes (3-1) and Matt Nelson of Johns Hopkins (3-2)
in the wrestleback. He then fell to Andrew Corbett of
Ursinus, 9-2.
Senior Sammy Brusca (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) finished
1-2 overall in the 149-pound bracket. Brusca dropped his opening
match to Ryan McGilvray of Springfield College by fall (0:53). He
then knocked off Luke Speers of Messiah in the wrestleback by a
score of 2-0, before falling 16-0 to Brent Lowe of McDaniel
College.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts
Southern Virginia for a 7:00 pm dual match.
