Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The
Washington and Lee women's basketball team limited
21st-ranked Capital to just 33.9 percent (20-59) shooting from the
floor, while outrebounding the Crusaders, 40-33, in producing a
58-48 win on Monday afternoon at the Surf N Slam Small College
Basketball Classic hosted by Point Loma Nazarene.
The Generals (2-3) jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the opening 8:16
of the game, but Capital (7-2) closed the gap to within two points
on several occasions in the final minutes of the first half and
W&L carried a 33-28 advantage into the break.
W&L maintained a four-point lead (39-35) with 16:02 left in
the game, but used a 14-1 run over the next 8:07 to assume a
commanding 53-36 lead with 7:55 remaining. The Generals then
maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way in their
first outing since playing Guilford on December 2.
Sophomore guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) paced
W&L with 16 points and five assists. She scored 10 of her
points in the opening 21-8 run. Sophomore forward Becca Bolton
(Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) added 14 points and eight
rebounds, while first-year forward Rachel Warrick (Herndon,
Va./Langley) chipped in 10 points and five boards.
Caitlin Elsass paced the Crusaders with 12 points, while Kristen
Richardson tallied 10 points.
Washington and Lee will continue action in the Surf N Slam Classic
on Wednesday against Point Loma at 5:00 PST.
