LEXINGTON, Va.— Lynchburg recorded a goal in each half as
the Hornets defeated Washington and Lee, 2-0, in a NCAA D-III
Women's Soccer Second Round match on Sunday afternoon at Watt
Field.
First-year midfielder Shelley Hoath (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon)
collected a pass from junior forward Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount
Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) in the 24th minute to put the
Hornets (16-3-3) up 1-0 at the half. Senior midfielder Ashley Hoath
(Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) added a goal in the 63rd minute as
her corner kick deflected off the post and into the net for the 2-0
victory.
The Generals (17-2-3) led in corner kicks, 5-3, while the Hornets
took the advantage in shots, 10-4.
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played the
duration, allowing two goals and notching two saves. Lynchburg
junior goalie Anna Wright (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) also played
the duration, recording two saves en route to the shutout.
The Generals ended their season ranked 10th in the nation, posting
a 17-2-3 record.
