COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team
opened its 2009-10 season on Saturday morning at the Ursinus
College Fall Brawl. Team scoring was not recorded.
Individually for the Generals, sophomore David Dennis (Sherman,
W.Va./Ravenswood) led the way with a runner-up finish in the
157-pound weight class. Dennis opened the tournament with a 4-0
decision over Matt Perry of the Apprentice School, then he knocked
off Gettysburg's Joe Fiore by a score of 4-2. In the
semifinals, Dennis defeated Matt Nobbs of Elizabethtown by a score
of 3-2, before falling to Dan Dicolo of the College of New Jersey
in the finals, 4-0.
Dennis was the only General to place on the day, with senior
149-pounder Sammy Brusca (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) and
junior 165-pounder Keith Jaworski (Clarksville, Md./River Hill)
each notching a 2-2 record for the day to lead the rest of the
W&L contingent.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Dec. 4-5 as it
participates in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
