HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite jumped out to a 5-0
lead in the first half and cruised to a 6-0 victory over the
Washington and Lee field hockey team on Wednesday evening at the
EMU Turf Field.
Six different players found the cage for the Royals (5-6, 4-0) led
by Adriana Santiago, who opened the scoring just 4:38 into the
contest and assisted on the third goal of the game that was scored
by Sarah Roth at 19:05.
EMU held a 31-14 advantage in shots and a 12-8 edge in corners in
producing just the second shutout over the Generals (4-6, 2-2) this
season.
Senior Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's
& St. Agnes) started and played the opening 18:55 in goal for
the Generals, allowing three goals and posting four saves.
First-year Kirsten Kyne (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) played the
final 51:05 and notched nine saves with three goals allowed. Becky
Nolt played all 70 minutes in the cage for the Royals, recording
three saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts
Bridgewater for a 1:00 pm homecoming contest.
