Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – The
Washington and Lee women's soccer team recorded two goals in
the first half as they went on to defeat Eastern Mennonite, 3-0,
Wednesday afternoon at the EMU Turf Field.
The Generals (9-1, 7-0 ODAC) struck early when sophomore forward
Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Good Counsel) netted an unassisted
marker in the 13th minute. Senior midfielder Roz Klann (Denver,
Colo./George Washington) would add another marker in the 40th
minute off a helper from first-year forward Hannah Sackfield
(Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) to put the Generals up 2-0 at the
half.
Junior midfielder Taylor Garrett (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook)
would add the final tally of the game in the 78th minute with a
helper from fellow junior midfielder Laura Yungmeyer (Kingsport,
Tenn./Dobyns Bennett) to secure the 3-0 win for the Generals.
Sophomore netminder Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played
the duration and recorded three saves en route to posting the
shutout. EMU (5-6, 2-3 ODAC) goalie Abby Diffenbach also played the
entire contest, allowing three goals and recording 10 saves.
The Generals return to the field on Saturday for a homecoming
matchup with ODAC rival Lynchburg. Start time is slated for 11:00
am.
