Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team needed
four sets to defeat Roanoke, 3-1, on Wednesday night at the Warner
Center.
The Generals (18-10, 8-2 ODAC), who had already defeated the
Maroons (13-15, 4-6) 3-0 on two occasions this season, prevailed,
25-17, 26-28, 25-19, 26-24, to secure their 13th straight win.
Senior setter Meghan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park),
one of four W&L seniors playing in their final match in the
Warner Center, tied a season-high with 51 assists and first-year
libero Cameron Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) added a season-high 29
digs.
Offensively, the Generals were led by senior outside hitter
Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) and junior middle blocker
Louise Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), who combined for 31 kills
against just five errors. Phillips had 18 kills and Brooks had 13
kills. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsey Dee (Tallahassee,
Fla./Maclay school) chipped in 11 kills to go with two aces, three
blocks and 10 digs.
Before the match, W&L honored its four seniors, Steinhardt,
Phillips, setter Kristi Stevens and right side Kelly Harrison. In
four seasons, the quartet have helped lead W&L to a 107-31
overall record and a 37-3 mark in conference play.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when they take on
Salisbury at 3:00 pm on the first day of the Seahawk Invitational,
hosted by St. Mary's (Md.).
