FERRUM, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer
team would take almost the entire match to find the net, but went
on to record two late goals as they topped Ferrum, 2-0, on Sunday
afternoon in Ferrum.
The match would remain scoreless through the first half and late
into the second until sophomore defender Corinne Smith (Greensboro,
N.C./Grimsley) recorded her first goal of the season off a corner
kick from sophomore Page Minton (Bowling Green, Ky./Bowling Green)
in the 81st minute. Senior midfielder Maggie Sutherland
(Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) would add another goal for the
Generals (13-1-2) in the 90th minute to secure the 2-0 over the
Panthers (3-13-1).
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all
90:00 minutes for the Generals, recording three saves en route to
the shutout. Ferrum goalie Katie Hodkinson also played the
duration, allowing two goals while recording six saves.
The Generals return to action Wednesday for their final ODAC match
of the season against Bridgewater at Watt Field. Start time is
slated for 4:00 pm.
