LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer
team would strike early, but it would not be enough as they fell to
Eastern Mennonite University, 3-1, on Wednesday at Watt Field.
Senior midfielder Drew Crowley (Weston, Mass./Weston) would put
the Generals (4-5-4, 2-4-2 ODAC) on the board early, netting a goal
in the 2nd minute off a cross from first-year midfielder Collier
Wiseman (Danville, Va./George Washington), but the Generals would
not be able to hold on to the lead.
EMU (6-5-5, 4-2-2 ODAC) would respond with two goals within two
minutes, netting unassisted markers from first-year midfielder
Tyler Gilchrist (Bedford, Va./Liberty) in the 32nd minute and
sophomore Mitchell Leap (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) in
the 34th minute. First-year defender Ryan Eshelman (Harrisonburg,
Va./Eastern Mennonite) would add the Royals final tally with 0.02
seconds remaining in the first half to secure the 3-1 victory.
Generals goalies junior Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) and
sophomore Alex Lambert (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Chaminade) split time
in the net, with Bartlett allowing three goals while recording
three saves and Lambert stopping two shots. EMU sophomore goalie
Dillon Brunk (Dayton, Va./Eastern Mennonite) played all 90:00 for
the Royals, allowing one goal while recording six saves.
The Generals return to action Saturday as they host

for 1:00 pm.
