LEXINGTON, Va. -- Randolph-Macon shot 63.8 percent from the floor and senior guard Justin Short (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester) scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 79-66 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action at the Warner Center on Wednesday evening.
R-MC (14-4, 8-1) made 30-of-47 attempts from the floor and limited the Generals (12-5, 5-3) to just 41.8 percent shooting, including 11.1 percent (1-14) from beyond the arc, in posting the win. Senior forward Ben Heller (Houston, Texas/Lamar) led W&L with a career-high 19 points, while senior guard
Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tied a career-high with 17 points.
After falling behind by seven at the break (35-28), W&L scored the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to three points (35-32) at 18:26, before R-MC reeled off an 8-0 run to go up by 11 points (43-32) with 14:55 remaining. The Generals managed to cut the R-MC lead to five (46-41) at 12:27 on a jump shot by Heller, but would get no closer.
Sophomore Brandon Braxton (Cape Charles, Va./North Hampton) scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Yellow Jackets, winners of 13 of their last 14 games. Sophomore center Billy Campion (Hamilton Square, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) added 11 points.
In addition to his 19 points, Heller grabbed five boards, while junior forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./Park School) added seven points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds for the Generals.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Randolph at 2:00 pm.
