W&L Field Hockey Stumbles to Rhodes, 3-2, in Overtime

DANVILLE, Ky. -- Twice the Washington and Lee field hockey team rallied to tie the game before ultimately falling in overtime to Rhodes, 3-2, on Sunday.

Trailing the Lynx (4-0) 1-0 at the half, the Generals (0-2) managed to tie the game at one apiece when junior forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's) scored off of a feed from junior midfielder Alex Caritis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) in the 40th minute.

Following a second Lynx goal, W&L was able to knot the score once again on junior defender Grace McGee's (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) first career goal in the 57th minute. Senior Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was credited with the assist.

However, W&L could not maintain the momentum as Rhodes scored 13 minutes into the extra period for the final margin.

Junior Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) started and played the entire game in the cage for the Generals, recording four saves.

The Generals return to the field on Saturday when travel to McDaniel for a 2:00 pm contest.
