ATLANTA, Ga. - - The W&L volleyball team finished up at the Emory National Invitational on Saturday afternoon as it fell to No. 7 Wittenberg 3-1, and dropped a 3-0 decision to second-ranked Emory. Washington and Lee now stands at 9-3 on the season.
Seventh-ranked Wittenberg (11-2) handed the Generals their second loss of the season 18-25, 17-25, 25-20, 19-25. W&L was led by junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep), who totaled 11 kills to go along with seven digs. Sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added six kills and 10 digs to go with four service aces while junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) contributed 20 aces and six digs.
 Emory then defeated the Generals 18-25, 18-25, 20-25, just the second time that W&L has been swept in its last 39 matches. In falling to the Eagles the Generals were led by senior right side Jessica Ulrich's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) eight kills. Schmitz totaled seven kills while senior middle blocker Kassie Bagley (Midlothian, Va./James River) and Phillips added six apiece. Junior right side Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) topped W&L with eight digs, Ulrich added four digs and two blocks, while Bagley contributed three blocks of her own.
W&L's next match is slated for Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater for an 11:00 am contest.
