W&L Volleyball Tops Roanoke, 3-0

SALEM, Va. -- In a battle of unbeaten teams the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Roanoke 3-0 on Tuesday evening to send the Maroons to their first loss of the season. With the win the Generals improve to 8-0, 3-0 on the season, while Roanoke falls to 10-1, 0-1.

 In sweeping the Maroons 25-21, 25-19, 26-24 the Generals extend their set winning-streak to 24. The 24 consecutive sets won is the longest such streak since 2005, when W&L won 27 consecutive sets between Oct. 15-29.

The Generals were paced by junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) who led the Generals with 14 kills and added nine digs. Sophomore middle blocker Louise Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) totaled eight kills and four blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) contributed six kills and nine digs. Junior right side Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) led W&L with 10 digs and junior setters Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission So.) and Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) chipped in 20 and 15 assists, respectively.

W&L returns to action as it travels to Atlanta to take part in the Emory National Invitational this weekend. The Generals' first match is Friday against Maryville with a start time scheduled for 2:00 pm.
