LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday as it swept Randolph and Averett to improve to 7-0, 2-0 ODAC. W&L defeated Randolph 25-12, 25-14, 25-10 and downed Averett 25-20, 25-20, 25-12.
In the victory over Randolph (3-7, 0-2) the Generals were once again led by junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep) as she notched a team-best 11 kills and 10 digs. First-year outside hitter Megan Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) added five kills and senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) chipped in four kills and five digs. Junior setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission, So.) contributed 16 assists.
Phillips notched 10 kills and Ulrich nine, in the victory over Averett (1-9), while sophomore middle blocker Louise Brooks (Baltimore, MD./Bryn Mawr) added a career-high eight. Stevens amassed 27 assists. For Phillips, it marked the fifth time that she has recorded double-digits in kills this season, and the 32nd time of her career.
The 7-0 start to the season is the best such start since the Generals started 9-0 in 2003.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as they head to Roanoke for an ODAC tilt. Game time is set for 6:30 pm.
