W&L Volleyball Handles Eastern Mennonite, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – A balanced attack highlighted the W&L volleyball team's 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-19) victory over visiting Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday evening. With the win the Generals run their record to 5-0, 1-0 ODAC, while EMU slips to 3-7, 0-1.

In winning their fifth-straight match, the Generals received balanced contributions from a variety of players as junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fl./Tampa Prep), the reigning ODAC Volleyball Player of the Week, led W&L in both kills and digs with nine and 10, respectively. Sophomore outside hitter Marah Schmitz (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) added eight kills, while senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and junior right side Kelly Harrison (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) totaled five apiece. Ulrich also chipped in seven digs.

Junior setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission So.) contributed a team-high 16 assists, while junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park Texas, Cedar Park) added 10 of her own.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph and Averett. W&L's first match is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
