Generals Falter at Colorado College, 15-11

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado College senior midfielder Hunter Combs registered four goals and two assists as the Tigers upset 15th-ranked Washington and Lee in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Washburn Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Colorado College (1-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter (13:41), but the Generals responded with a goal apiece from sophomore attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and junior midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex)to take a 2-1 edge with 10:32 left in the opening period. The Tigers would then score five-unanswered goals between the first and second quarters, taking a 6-2 advantage with 10:57 left in the second en route to a 10-5 half-time lead. The Generals (2-1) fought back in the third quarter with scores from Keigler, St. John and junior attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) to cut CC's lead to 10-8 at the 9:16 mark of the third. However, CC got two immediate scores from sophomore attackman Brendan Gangl and took a 12-8 lead with 6:31 to play in the third quarter as it held on for the 15-11 win.

W&L was led by St. John, who had a trio of goals, and Keigler's two goals and three assists. Senior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) added two goals and two assists, while senior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) contributed two tallies and one assist. Junior goalkeeper Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played the duration for W&L and racked up 14 saves.

For the Tigers, Combs' effort was complemented by senior midfielder Tom Dugan's three goals and one helper. Freshman attacker Joe Boyle tallied one goal and three assists, while Gangl had two goals and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Scott MacArthur played the entire game between the pipes for CC, notching seven saves.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Washington College at 1:00 pm.
