LEXINGTON, Va. -- Roanoke used a 19-0 run midway through the second half en route to defeating Washington and Lee, 60-44, in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The opening minutes of the game featured four ties and five lead changes. Roanoke built a six-point lead two times in the closing 5:35 of the first period and held a 27-24 edge at the break.
W&L (7-13, 6-9) out-scored the Maroons, 11-7, over the first 6:28 of the second half and led by one point, 35-34, with 13:32 left. However, RC (12-9, 10-5) then held W&L scoreless for the next 7:58 using the aforementioned run to take a 53-35 lead with 5:40 to play and claim the 16-point victory.
The Blue and White, whose three-game winning streak was ended with the loss, were hampered by 23 turnovers and were out-rebounded by the Maroons, 41-33.
Senior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) paced the Generals with 16 points and eight rebounds. With her 16 points, Krouchick moves into fourth all-time in scoring at W&L with 1,266 career points, surpassing Megan Babst '02 (1,265). Junior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) also added 12 points.
Roanoke was led by senior forward Erin Hanson's (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman center Jordan Gholson (Louisa, Va./Louisa County) totaled 13 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) registered 10 markers.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to take on Guilford at 7:00 pm.
