Women's Basketball vs. Randolph-Macon

SALEM, Va. – Second-seeded Randolph-Macon used a 26-3 run over the final 6:49 of the game as it posted a 75-65 win over Washington and Lee in the first round of the 2008 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Salem Civic Center on Thursday evening.

The contest featured three lead changes and two ties in the opening 10:34 of the first half, but the Generals used a 7-0 spurt to take a 25-18 lead with 7:28 remaining in the first stanza. Senior forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) scored 17 first-half points to help the Blue and White lead by as many as eight on two occasions and own a 35-29 half-time advantage.

W&L out-scored R-MC 23-13 to start the second half as it extended its lead to as many as 14 points (58-44) with 10:19 left in the contest. The Generals continued to lead by double-digits with 6:49 to play (62-49), but the Yellow Jackets used the aforementioned surge to post the 10-point victory (75-65).

The Generals were led by Kane's 17 points and five rebounds, while junior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) totaled 16 points, tied a career-high with eight assists and added four steals. Senior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) tied a season-high with 15 points to go along with four assists. Junior forward Kara Nadeau (Oakton, Va./Oakton) posted nine points and game-high 10 rebounds.

Randolph-Macon (22-4) was paced by junior forward Lindsay Riesbeck's 27 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Sophomore center and 2008 ODAC Player of the Year Molly Ariail registered 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while junior guard Amanda Hiltunen dropped in 14 markers and dished out five assists.

W&L ends its season with a 9-17 overall record. With the win, R-MC advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 ODAC Tournament and will take on the winner of the Eastern Mennonite/Bridgewater quarterfinal on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
