LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburg College freshman forward Kylie Lucas scored the go-ahead basket in overtime to lead the Hornets to a 76-71 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.
In the extra session, junior forward Kara Nadeau (Oakton, Va./Oakton) connected on two foul shots to give W&L its first lead of the contest, 66-64, with 4:51 remaining. However, LC would go on to tie the contest (66-66) on a lay-up by sophomore guard Kristina Darby at 3:26 and Lucas' lay-up gave LC a 68-67 lead with 2:25 to play. The Hornets would not relinquish the lead in the final minutes in securing the five-point victory.
Lynchburg led by as many 13 points in the second half (43-30) at 16:06, but W&L outscored LC, 24-7, over the following 10:11 to cut the score to 55-54 at the 5:55 mark. Lynchburg pushed out to a 63-55 lead, but the Generals rallied with a 9-2 spurt to tie the game at 64-64 on a lay-up by freshman center Alex Harper (Oak Hill, Va./Chantilly) with 26.2 seconds left in regulation.
Lynchburg (16-9, 13-7) scored the first six points of the contest en route to building a 33-15 lead with 3:56 to play in the opening half. However, the Generals countered with a 10-2 run to cut the LC advantage to 35-25 at the break.
W&L (9-16, 8-12) placed five players in double figures led by senior forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson), who totaled a team-high 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Nadeau racked up 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while senior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) totaled 12 points. Harper set a career-high with 12 points and senior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) added 10 points.
LC was led by Darby's 17 points and sophomore forward Brittany Dahn, who notched 11 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman guard Courtney Brewer had 12 points, while sophomore guards Dana Esposito and Chevonne Booker each tallied 10 points.
The Generals will be in action again on Thursday as they participate in the ODAC Tournament held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va. W&L will be the seventh seed and will face second-seeded Randolph-Macon at 6:00 pm.
