Bienemann Leads Generals Past Bridgewater, 80-56

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.C./Chatham) totaled 28 points and seven rebounds to lead Washington and Lee to an 80-56 win over Bridgewater in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday evening at Nininger Hall.

The Generals (15-10, 11-7) shot 56.5 percent (13-23) from the floor in the first half and assumed the lead for good at 17-16 on a three-pointer by freshman guard Jason Cimino (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata) at the 6:35 mark. W&L stretched its lead to 34-26 at halftime and used a 13-2 run to start the second stanza in pushing out to a 47-28 lead just 2:15 into the second half.

W&L shot 52.2 percent (24-46) for the game and drilled 24-of-36 (.667) free throws en route to leading by as many as 26 points (79-53) in the second half.

Bienemann finished the game 8-for-8 from the floor and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Junior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) contributed 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, while junior forward Kirk Jones (Maple Glen, Pa./Germantown Academy) chipped in 11 points.

Senior guard Andrew Cathlin paced the Eagles (13-12, 7-11) with 16 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Michael Oblitey and sophomore guard Dominick Trawick added eight points each.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va. The Generals will play Roanoke at 3:00 pm in the 4-5 game.
