JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Junior attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) registered four goals and one assist as the 15th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team opened its 2008 season with a 23-3 win over Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday evening in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Generals (1-0) jumped out to an 11-0 lead at the halftime and held SCAD scoreless until 6:07 of the third period (14-1) as they cruised to the 23-3 victory. W&L was led by Skeen and senior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney), who totaled three goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Deets Hoffman (Houston, Texas/St. John's) added one goal and a team-high three assists, while junior attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) notched a trio of scores.
Junior Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephens & St. Agnes) started the game for W&L, making one save and allowing no goals in the first half. Locke was relieved by junior Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett), and freshmen Ned Lundvall (Richmond, Va./Gilman) and Jason Lumpkin (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall), who combined to make eight saves in the second half.
E.A. Spencer Gray, Erik Elmquist and Stewart Yost each scored an unassisted goal for the Bees (2-4), while Kenan Degirmenci and Carlos Marquez split the contest between the pipes, totaling 11 saves between them.
The Generals host York in their home-opener on Wednesday at 7:00 pm at the W&L Turf Field.
