W&L Men's Basketball Stymied by Hampden-Sydney, 73-48

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney shot 58 percent from the field (28-48) and held a 37-18 advantage on the boards in posting a 73-48 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Monday evening at Fleet Gymnasium.

The Generals (14-9, 10-6) held a 17-16 lead with 10:08 left in the first half, but the Tigers used a 12-0 run over the next 4:37 to assume a 28-17 advantage with 5:31 left in the half. W&L pulled to within seven points (28-21) at the 4:01 mark, but H-SC pushed out to a 37-24 halftime lead and was never challenged in the second stanza in claiming the win.

Washington and Lee, which shot just 35.4 percent (17-48) from the floor, was led by senior forward Femi Kusimo's (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) 16 points, 14 of which were scored in the second half. Junior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) totaled 12 points, all in the first half, while senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was limited to just nine points.

Hampden-Sydney (13-10, 7-9) was paced by senior forward Drew Prehmus, who tallied a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Turner King posted 18 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Troy Kaase notched 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Guilford for a 7:00 pm contest.
