LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team assured itself of its first winning season in 18 years as it defeated Lynchburg College, 83-52, in ODAC action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals, now 14-8 overall and 10-5 in league play, last posted a winning record in 1989-90 when they went 15-12 overall. The 10 ODAC victories are also the most conference wins since going 10-2 in the league in 1988-89.

W&L never trailed in the contest, shooting 61.9 percent (13-21) from the floor in the opening stanza en route to a 43-25 lead at the break. The Generals shot 56.3 percent (27-48) for the game and continued to pull away in the second half in posting their fifth-straight win over the Hornets (3-19, 1-14).

Junior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) paced four Generals in double figures with 16 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor and 8-for-8 from the foul line. Senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) totaled 11 points and five rebounds in just 18 minutes of action, while junior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior forward Ben Heller (Houston, Texas/Lamar) added 10 points each. Heller's point total was a season-high.

Lynchburg was led by sophomore forward Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, Va./Fork Union), who registered 11 points and eight rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday as it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 7:00 pm contest.
