LEXINGTON, Va. -- W&L senior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) recorded a team-high 16 points and tied a career-high with 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Eastern Mennonite defeated the Generals, 62-46, in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The Royals used solid first-half shooting, draining six threes (6-11) and shooting 48.1 percent (14-29) from the field, to build a 13-point lead at the break (37-24). After extending its lead to as many as 17 points (41-24) with 18:56 to play in the contest, the Generals out-scored EMU, 11-3, to make it a nine-point game (44-35) with 10:47 left in the contest. However, Eastern Mennonite promptly went on a 9-2 run over the following 3:09 to take a 53-37 lead with 6:38 to go and never trailed by less than 11 markers for the remainder of the contest.
EMU (17-5, 13-4) out-rebounded the Generals, 35-31, and forced 17 W&L turnovers.
Krouchick was joined in double-figure scoring by junior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels), who added 11 points and four assists for W&L.
The Royals had four players score in double-digits, led by sophomore guard Ebony Dennis' (Baltimore, Md./Western) 16 points, 13 of which were scored in the first half. She hit 5-of-8 from long range for the game. Junior forward Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) totaled 14 points, while senior center Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) and senior guard Tara Jones (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) posted 11 and 10 points, respectively.
W&L (8-14, 7-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Hollins at 7:00 pm.
