BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's swim team lost to Virginia Tech, 147.5-101.5, on Friday evening at War Memorial Pool in Blacksburg, Va.
The Generals (9-2) had four swimmers record first-place finishers at the meet. Sophomore Ian Childers (Ona, W. Va./Greater Latrobe) took first in the 100 back (1:02.69), while junior Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Landsdale Catholic) was the first finisher in the 500 free (4:56.57). Sophomore Josh Gonzalez (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied a winning time in the 50 fly (24.22) and senior Will Hartmann (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) snagged the gold in the 400 IM (4:23.41).
Additionally, junior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) and senior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) each notched a second-place performance. Crook was the second to touch in the 200 free (1:44.25) and McGlaston tallied a second-place finish in the 100 free (47.52). The Generals look to defend their conference title on February 14-16 at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
