COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team was in action on Sunday afternoon as it competed in the Fall Brawl hosted by Ursinus College.
No team scoring was kept, but several individuals fared well in their respective weight classes, spearheaded by the performance of senior 285-pounder John Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons), who finished 3-2 overall. Christopher pinned NYU's Jordan Schimmenti in the opening round (2:43), before being pinned by the Apprentice School's Cecil Lee in the second round (6:47). In the consolation bracket, Christopher knocked off Thiel's Nate Meyer, 5-1, and pinned Jamal Doresy of Thiel in 2:42, before evetually falling to Bryan Keyser of Elizabethtown (2:02).
Also for the Generals, first-years Ben Ersing (Beverly, Mass./St. John's Prep), Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) and junior Jon Brown (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) all finished 2-2 on the day. Brown advanced to the semifinals of the 174-pound bracket before falling to Ben Finelli of Usrinus, 12-3. Ersing competed at 125 pounds, Campbell wrestled at 133 pounds and Dennis wrestled at 149 pounds.
Washington and Lee returns to action on December 3 as it hosts Southern Virginia for a 7:00 pm dual match.
